The AEM (Agentless Exception Monitoring) Client Monitoring Management Pack enables you to identify generic errors sent by Windows Error Reporting (WER) clients to Operations Manager 2007 Management Servers that are AEM-enabled. Errors from clients running Windows Vista are sent as generic errors, as are certain errors from clients running other Windows operating systems. The Client Monitoring Management Pack maps those errors to definitions that are meaningful: the application name and version. Without this mapping function these errors appear in Operations Manager as “unknown application” and "unknown version," rendering the data inadequate for maximal application monitoring.

For the generic errors specified in this unsealed Management Pack, the Management Pack defines the name and version of the application that generates the error. When these errors occur, the Management Pack substitutes the name and version of the involved application for the generic error. The Application and Application Error Group views thus contain more meaningful information and make it easier for you to solve problems. In addition, mapping the unknown errors to meaningful definitions improves the effectiveness of AEM reports, such as the Client Monitoring Top Applications with Error groups Report, by eliminating the skewing of data that would result from a large number of generic errors.

Note
The mapping function will affect only data received after the Management Pack has been imported. Previous data will not be changed.

You can use the Import Management Pack Wizard in the Operations Console to import the Management Pack.
